Protection
Focus: Reading, Speaking
Aim: to provide an
opportunity for the learners to develop their reading and speaking skills by
gathering information on the cause and results
of environment pollution and discussing ways of protecting the Earth.
Expected outcomes: by the end of the
lesson the learners are expected to demonstrate enhanced awareness of what
pollutes the planet and what measures can help preserve the nature and the
ability to discuss the issues concerning the topic.
Equipment: PCs with the
Internet connection; LCD projector
I.
Warming up.
1.
In groups of 4-5 students discuss their answers to the
questions in slides 1-2.
2.
Whole class discussion.
II.
Pre-task activity.
Students match the pictures of natural disasters with their names in
slides 4-12.
III.
Web-based research
Students work in 6 groups searching the I-net for the information on one
of the environmental problems to answer the questions:

What causes the problem to happen?
-
Why is it bad?
-
How could the problem be solved?
-
What could be done to prevent the problem?
Time limit 20 min.
Suggested sites for research:
Checking unknown words
IV.
Post-task activity
The groups report their
findings to the whole class and answer possible questions.
Suggested home task.
Groups prepare for the role play. They are
going to participate in a conference “Let’s preserve our Planet for future
generations”. Student prepare talks with visual support in the PP, or on posters
to present and discuss the environmental problems.
